With the support & guidance of State government, association, successful businessmen, industrialists, bureaucrats & eminent personalities from various fields from China & abroad, China SME International Cooperation Association, China Jiangsu Economic & Trade Commission, China Jiangsu SME Bureau, China Suzhou Municipal Government and China Suzhou International Exposition Center had taken initiative to set up China International SME FAIR (SMEF) which had been held twice in success during 2006 and 2007. SMEF is a one-stop platform for showcasing services and solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises. It is also an international SME marketplace for networking, business matching, and exchange of ideas and inspiration. Both private enterprises and public bodies are invited to exhibit at the event. A broad range will be present, including overseas and mainland private enterprises, trade promotion organizations, consulates, trade commissions, international chambers and world trade organizations. It combines a large-scale trade exhibition with 10 business-themed pavilions and a series of market and sector-specific seminars and networking events.

Small and medium-sized enterprises play an extremely important role

in today's global economies. A vibrant SME sector contributes to job creation, and has always been a strong engine of economic growth. There are more than 4.32 million enterprises and 38 million private industrialist and businessmen registered in China by the end of 2006 according to state statistics. The SME sector contributes 58.5% of the total value of products and services, 68.3% of total output of export and 50.2% of income tax of China. It also contributes 66% of technology innovation and patent, 82% of new products in the R & D industry, and provides 75% of the employment opportunities for cities and towns. SMEs are the driving force and role model behind a large number of innovations and contribute to the growth of the national economy. As a result, SMEs are today exposed to greater opportunities for expansion and diversification across the sectors.
